MTAC Convention Performances

Seven students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio received ribbons from the Music Teachers’ Association of California for their performances on June 28, 2014 in the 2014 MTAC Annual Convention in Los Angeles. Those students include: Clair Allison, Cameryn Boggio-Shean, Arielle Buchanan, Quinlan Harp, Sophia Helm, Eli Valentine, and Natalie Zavala. They were invited to perform based on the exceptional work they did in the Certificate of MeritTM program. Well done!

National Cello Institute

Naomi Stoodley joined cellists from around the world at the National Cello Institute, which involved a week of intensive training at Pomona College in Claremont.

Ensemble Festival

27 cello students from the Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed in The Music Teachers' Association of California's Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch 2014 Ensemble Festival. A 27-piece cello orchestra performed several pieces, and several small cello ensembles also performed. Highlights of the program include the Popper Requiem for 3 cellos and piano and Manuel de Falla’s Fire Dance for cello quintet. Congratulations on a wonderful concert!

Sofia Paganin wins Honorable Mention in PV-VC Branch Competition

Sofia Paganin won Honorable Mention in the 16-18 year old age division of a competition held by the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Music Teachers' Association of California. Fabulous work, Sofia!

Bach Festival

Helen Wuellner and Quinlan Harp performed in the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch Bach Festival on April 5, 2014. They both played beautifully, and Helen Wuellner received the highest accolade for string students: Honorable Mention.

Strings Regional Bach Festival

Naomi Stoodley performed at the Strings Regional Bach Festival at El Camino College on March 23, 2014. She was well received by the judges. Congratulations, Naomi!

Junior Chamber Music Recital

Five students from the Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed at the Colburn School of Performing Arts on March 9, 2014, the culmination of their involvement in the Junior Chamber Music Program. One highlight of the program was a performance of the Popper Requiem for 3 cellos and piano (performed memorized) by Sofia Paganin, Naomi Stoodley, Samantha Labnow, and Nisarg Tanna. Cameryn Boggio-Shean, Maya Harris, and Naomi Stoodley also performed in string quartets.

Certificate of MeritTM 2014

23 students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio passed the Music Teachers' Association of California's Certificate of MeritTM exam. This rigorous performance exam includes a performance of technical elements, memorized pieces, and a written theory and eartraining test. 20 students received the Branch Honors distinction for their outstanding performances.

Senior Medallion Awarded to Clair Allison

Clair Allison has received a Senior Medallion from the Music Teachers' Association of California for her success in the Certificate of MeritTM program through her high school years. Great work!

Joshua Lakin & Joshua Magpantay earn perfect scores on the Certificate of MeritTM Theory Test

Two students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio received a score of 100% on their written theory and eartraining test for the Certificate of MeritTM exam. Congratulations to Joshua Lakin and Joshua Magpantay (both level 2).

Cameryn Boggio-Shean accepted into All State Honor Orchestra

Cameryn Boggio-Shean played a winning audition for the California Band Directors' Association and has been invited to perform in the 2014 All State Middle School Honor Orchestra. This competitive program features the top musicians of middle school age from the entire state of California.

Fall Student Recital

A Student Recital was held on December 14, 2013 featuring the students of Celine Gietzen. It was a huge success. 26 students performed solos from memory, and an adult cello quartet closed the program. The students were well prepared and their performances reflected their hard work.

Holiday Festival Medals Awarded

19 cello students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed memorized solos fitting the theme “Sounds of Nature” in the Holiday Festival sponsored by the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch of The Music Teachers’ Association of California. Five gold medals were awarded, to Cameryn Boggio-Shean, Naomi Stoodley, Sofia Paganin, Maya Harris, and Joshua Cook. 12 students received silver medals: Ava Schulze, Natalie Zavala, Nelson Kappas, Bryce Baur, Joshua Magpantay, Joshua Lakin, Arielle Buchanan, Kristina Askenas, Rogan Fish, Laura Gurney, Sophia Helm, and Sarah Scott. Bronze medals were awarded to Quinlan Harp and Andrea Hassig. Congratulations on all of the outstanding performances!

Ensemble Festival

21 cello students from the Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed in The Music Teachers' Association of California's Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch 20th Annual Ensemble Festival. A 21-piece cello orchestra performed several pieces, and several small cello ensembles also performed. Celine Gietzen closed the program with a performance of several movements from Schumann’s Five Pieces in Folk Style.

Sofia Paganin wins FIRST PLACE in PV-VC Branch Competition

Sofia Paganin won 1st place in the 13-15 year old age division of a competition held by the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Music Teachers' Association of California. She was awarded a large trophy and a cash prize of $100. Fabulous work, Sofia!

Cameryn Boggio-Shean wins 2nd Place in PV-VC Branch Competition

Cameryn Boggio-Shean won 2nd place in the 12 and under age division of a competition held by the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Music Teachers' Association of California. This competition features students from the top teachers in Ventura County. Being invited to participate is an honor, and winning 2nd place among these top students is a significant accomplishment. Congratulations, Cameryn!

Bryce Baur and Michaela Smith receive SCSBOA Solo Awards

Two students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio were singled out of their entire school orchestra as exceptional soloists. They were each honored with an engraved plaque by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association at their school orchestra festival. We applaud Bryce Baur and Michaela Smith for this outstanding accomplishment.

Holiday Festival Medals Awarded

Six cello students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed in the Holiday Festival sponsored by the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch of The Music Teachers’ Association of California. Gold medals were awarded to Sofia Paganin, Bryce Kulzer, Joshua Cook, and Katherine Githens, while Opal Klotz earned a silver and Braxton Lazar received a bronze for their outstanding performances.

Community Service Performance was Well Received

Residents of the Alma Via Camarillo Retirement Community enjoyed a cello recital featuring eleven students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio. Solos were performed by Bryce Baur, Opal Klotz, Braxton Lazar, Katherine Githens, Erin Stoodley, Naomi Stoodley, and Sofia Paganin. An adult cello quartet including Bill Arnold, Carla Knight, and Mi Kim also entertained the guests.

Candy Donations

Students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio collectively accumulated 45 pounds of candy which will be mailed to our troops stationed overseas. The organization that sends out these care packages (including clothing, letters from children, toys, and candy among other things) is Operation Gratitude. Thanks for participating!

Ensemble Festival

33 cello students from the Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed in The Music Teachers' Association of California's Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch 2012 Ensemble Festival. A 33-piece cello orchestra performed several pieces including an arrangement by Celine Gietzen of Strauss' Zarathustra which can be found on this site (under Performances, click on Large Student Ensembles). Several small ensembles were equally successful (many of these videos are also posted, under Small Student Ensembles). Congratulations on a wonderful concert!

Leah Hamel Wins 1st Place in Upper Division PV-VC Branch Competition

Leah Hamel was awarded $200 and a huge trophy for winning 1st place in the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch Competition, upper division. Her winning performance of Saint-Saens Concerto No. 1 in A Minor Op. 33 (1st movement) can be viewed on this site. Under Performances, click on Student Solos.

Joshua Cook Wins Honorable Mention in the PV-VC Branch Competition

Joshua Cook impressed the judges with his performance of Danse Rustique by Squire for the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch Competition and took home a trophy for Honorable Mention.

Senior Medallion Awarded to Leah Hamel

Leah Hamel from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio earned a Senior Medallion for participation in the Certificate of Merit program throughout her high school years and for passing Cello Level Ten (Advanced) in 2012. Leah will be going on to pursue a college degree in contemporary ballet at the Julliard School of Dance in New York. Celine Gietzen is gratified to have started Leah on the cello at the age of 9 and to have helped her to receive this distinction from the Music Teachers' Association of California. Most importantly, Leah has developed into a strong cellist with a beautiful tone and great musical sensitivity.

Certificate of Merit Branch Honors

This distinction is awarded to those students who perform at a high level and also do well on the theory test. Leah Hamel Wins a Gold Medal in the Holiday Festival

Leah Hamel, a senior in high school and student of Celine Gietzen for 8 years, performed the 2nd movement of the Shostakovich Cello Sonata Op. 40 at the Music Teachers' Association of California's Holiday Festival on November 12, 2011. She was adjudicated by three judges who awarded her a gold medal for her performance. This unanimous decision led to her receiving Honorable Mention for the festival.

Ensemble Festival

Fourteen cello students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio performed in The Music Teachers' Association, Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch, 2011 Ensemble Festival. The audience had a great time, and the students received many compliments for their performances. Congratulations on a great concert!

Bach Festival

The Southern California Junior Bach Festival was held in the Pleasant Valley-Ventura County Branch of The Music Teachers’ Association of California on April 9th, 2011. Cellists Mattea Bennett, Katherine Githens, Leah Hamel, Nelson Kappas, and David Teowee all received certificates for their memorized performances of a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Bryce Kulzer Earns a Perfect Score on the CM Theory Test

A special congratulations goes to Bryce Kulzer who earned a 100% on her theory test. She set a great example for all of the students through her hard work. Way to go!

The cello students from The Celine Gietzen Music Studio earned an average score of 93% on their Certificate of Merit theory tests. Nine out of eleven students scored above 90%.
